Lookup request John BEALEY Monumental Inscription d 1908
« on: Friday 11 June 21 10:46 BST (UK) »
Grateful if some kind person is able to look up the Monumental Inscriptions for All Saints, Gospel End, Sedgley, Staffordshire for a John BEALEY who died in 1908 aged 80 years.
My research suggests that his wife's name was Esther m.n. Ford.
I am particularly interested in the names of any children; ie a Mary or Minnie.
He was formerly a Police Officer.
In 1908 he was living at 13 Curzon Street, Wolverhampton (source: Electoral Register Wolverhampton - Blakenhall Ward)
Many thanks

FindMyPast says that there is a monumental inscription - doesn't say what it is, just that you can get a copy from midland-ancestors.shop. I would suggest that you get in touch with them.

Married Esther in 1852 per freebmd.  3 children shown on 1861 entry.  Mary 7  Harriet 4 & Ann 1

Have you followed the family through the censuses?  Have you checked for a marriage for Mary?

Thanks emeltom for your suggestion.
Thanks also to CaroleW and Capetown for your postings.
I have followed them through some census records and researched them further and found the following children:
1. Mary Esther [Ford] Bealey, born 13/8/1854, baptised 25/12/1855, St Peter Stonnall.
A Minnie Hester F Bealey married Dec Q 1882, Warrington to Harry Atkinson (Source FreeUKBMD).  So far unable to find anything further on Harry/Minnie Atkinson until I found the following:
Marriage: Edward John [Valentine] Dawes (45yrs) and Minnie Atkinson (43yrs), 9 August 1905, Komgha, South Africa.  Her residence was at Sterkshorn (although hard to read) (Source Marriage Register record).
Death: Form of Information records Minnie Dawes, residence Bungalow Hotel, Butterworth, age 40years, died 20 January 1911.  Place of death Hemming Street, Cathcart.  Buried Cathcart cemetery, South Africa.  Cemetery has apparently been vandalised.
Death Notice: Minnie Dawes. Occupation Hotel Keeper.  Father - Bealey "Xtian name unknown".  Mother Bealey "Xtian name unknown".  Husband Edward John Valentine Dawes (and informant).  No children. (Source FamilySearch)

Hence my interest in what is on John Bealey's headstone?  Are Mary and Minnie the same person?

2. Harriet Jane Jones Bealey born c1857, baptised 29/4/1860, St Mary's, Wolverhampton
Died 4/12/1938 age 81 years.  21 Lea Rd & Ward Rd, Wolverhampton.  Did not marry.
Probate to Amelia Amy Bealey.

3. Ann [Annie] Maria Louisa Bealey born 1860 baptised 29/4/1860 St Mary's Wolverhampton
Married Sept Q 1898 St Luke Wolverhampton to Henry James LOCKLEY.  Still to check out the Lockley family.

4. Agnes Florence Bealey born c 1867.  Died 9/9/1948.  Did not marry.
Probate to Amelia Amy Bealey

5. [Amelia] Amy Bealey born 1 August 1878.  Died 1978, Wolverhampton age 100years.
1901 census at 13 Dudley Rd, Wolverhampton - St Lukes, District 35.  Pawn Brokers Asst.
Did not marry.

I have checked some Bealey Public Family trees on Ancestry and sent a message to one owner - awaiting a reply.  Most other owners have not accessed their account for 3-11 months.

I am not looking for information on Edward John Dawes.

There are no Atkinson/Bealey births up to 1892 so looks like they may have emigrated soon after 1882 marriage

Quite a wide variation in her birthyear.  Born 1854 but 43 when she married in 1905 & 40 when she died 1911.

Amelia Amy Bealey was illegitimate

Thanks CaroleW for this information.
I will see if I can find when they might have migrated to South Africa.
Yes quite a wide variation in her birth year which is why I am seeking to confirm that Mary/Minnie are the same person?
Thanks for advising that Amelia Amy Bealey was illegitimate.
Annie Bealey was the second wife of Henry James Lockley and it appears that they had no children.
Henry James Lockley and his first wife Elizabeth Eleanor Perry had 5 children - 3 daus and 2 sons.
Henry was an artist and teacher.
It appears that none of the five Bealey daughters had any children.

lan-opc.org.uk

The above site has an entry for Minnie's marriage in Warrington. It states that she is from Wolverhampton and that her father was John Braley, a Gentleman.
