The William from Great Bedwyn has his supporters.

Ah, that's your Hiscock!

I keep coming with the name of Hiscock.

Baptism at Great Bedwyn, 2 Dec 1838
William
illegitimate son of Ann Hiscock, Widow
Abode Marten
Born 29 October 1838

Marriage at Great Bedwyn, 30 Dec 1843
John Richardson, Bachelor, Laborer, father James Richardson deceased, Laborer
+
Ann Hiscock, widow of James who left 2 sons + 1 daur (wow!), father John Bushell, Laborer
Both full age, residence Marten

And there is the Bushell maiden name!

RICHARDSON, WILLIAM       BUSHEL
GRO Reference: 1838  D Quarter in HUNGERFORD UNION  Volume 06  Page 173

1841 in Great Bedwyn
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M73P-2CT

Thomas, Elizabeth and Charles Richardson in the same household!
So the William Richardson Dec 1838 birth reg was to John and Ann (but not married)
And the Charles Richardson June 1839 birth reg was to the Thomas and Elizabeth also in Great Bedwyn

Incredible!

Just ordered one .

I think you will need it!
In 1851 young Hiscock is now William Richardson, 12, in Martin, Great Bedwyn, with mother Ann and siblings
And Thomas and Elizabeth Richardson (also nee Bushell) and family are the previous household
Piece 1686 folio 218 page 13

What confusion that caused!
May not be the right William though. The birth date is not the same as in your bible

William Richardson born March 25th 1839

Good luck with the certificate!
John

1841?
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M735-ZXW

In 1851 Thomas on the above census is a widower

Going on the ages of Thomas and Elizabeth in 1841, possible marriage
Thomas Richardson and Elizabeth Few
22 July 1818, Tidcombe

And for that death in 1849 that Colin found
Burial at Tidcombe, 12 Dec 1849
Elizabeth Richardson, age 53 years
Abode Fosbury

So I reckon that had the William Richardson registered in Hungerford in 1838 been theirs, mother's maiden surname would have been Few.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

May I return to my previous  query regarding the father of William Richardson born March 1839.
I have received a marriage certificate ( December 17th 1864 )which states fathers name is also William Richardson.
Can these be names be falsified I wonder
Thank you again for taking the time to read this.
