Thank you for this condolence Candleflame.
The nurses in particular were wonderfully supportive at the RVI. Nothing was too much trouble. If I wrote of all they did I would be writing a very long essay. I must say my family and I agree that they went above and beyond. We were very touched that two of the nurses went off nightshift and they wrote out a poem about my brother for his birthday which was the day he died. They also put up decorations and asked us what music he liked and played all his favourite songs as well as so much more.
Also, two lovely chaplains came to pray for my brother and us and the prayers were so beautifully worded and very comforting. One of these chaplains brought a 'bag of kindness' for my SiL filled with lots of hospital comforts. This included a blanket to keep her warm during the last two nights we kept vigil. It was a very sad time but it felt very touching what kindness and empathy we received at the hospital.
