I think John was a hawker in 1841! Age out? Living same place.
Could he be a relation of Thomas though? :-\

Sorry Lizzie, missed your last post.

John Bishop was born on 9th June 1792 and baptised the following day at Northmoor Oxon s/o Thomas and Susanna. He married Anne Mullis at Fulbrook in 1811.
They had children James 1812 Fulbrook, Thomas 1814 Fulbrook, Mary Ann 1815 Wantage, Sarah 1820 Wantage, Eliza 1826 Wantage
Ann nee Mullis died in 1832, then John married Ann Giles in 1833. They had two children Jane 1834 and William 1835. I believe Ann nee Giles died in 1839.

Thomas was a huckster in Louisa's baptism.

There is a burial at Wantage on 12 Jan 1839 for an Ann BISHOP aged 26.

Ann would be quite young, considering John's age, but there is an Ann Giles bapt 1812 in Wantage, which would fit . D/o James and Jane. Jane was name of Ann nee Giles first child

1816 Oct 18, BARNARD Eliza Eltam, broker, illigit d/o Elizabeth, Wantage, born 3 Oct.

There are a few Barnard marriages at Wantage.

Eliza on 26 May 1828 to a Charles Jefferies
Elizabeth on 24 Dec 1830 to John Beaves but they are both widowed.

Eliza's father was probably a Mr Eltham as is usually the case when an illigitimate child has a surname as a second name.

I have not been able to find any of them in the 1841 or 1851 census either.

Elizabeth Barnard could be a widow, I've seen quite a number giving birth to a child too long after late husband's death for it to have been fathered by him and therefore being recorded as illegitimate.
I have five potential Elthams for the father of Eliza Eltam Barnard. All baptised Steventon Berks
John bapt 27 Jan 1766
Job bapt 28 May 1769
Thomas bapt 9 Feb 1772
Robert bapt 28 Jan 1776
Richard bapt 14 Nov 1779

I can't find anything else after baptism for any of them except Robert (my 3x g-grandfather).

Robert married Mary Hawkins in West Challow in 1806, and had 6 children in West or East Challow between about 1808 and 1821. So he wasn't too far from Wantage, but did he go off and have an extra-marital relationship, then back to Mary?

I've found Charles Jeffries with wife Elizabeth with lots of children in 1851. She is 43 (b abt 1808). Checked mmn of youngest child - confirmed as Barnard. This Elizabeth Barnard is too young to be mother of Eliza Eltam Barnard.

There's a death of a John Beavis age 45 in Wantage in 1840, and deaths for two Elizabeth Beavis:
1845 Wantage (b abt 1774) and 1847 Steventon ( b abt 1799). Can't find either Elizabeth in 1841

The year after Elizabeth Barnard married John Beaves, there was marriage between a Richard Barnard and Elizabeth Beaves (witnesses John Beaves and Eliza Clement). I think Richard may be the son of Thomas Barnard / Bernard and Elizabeth Allen, married Wantage 2 Mar 1795. Thomas Barnard was buried 10 July 1810 age 39, there were several children from this marriage. I think Elizabeth Allen may be the one bapt 26 Nov 1775, which would fit with the age at death of Elizabeth Beaves in 1845.
When Thomas Bishop's older brother James married in 1843 to Lydia Halcup widow (nee Farmer), one witness was Ann Barnard. I think she was Ann nee Farmer wife of John Barnard, another son of Thomas and Elizabeth Barnard.

In 1841 both Richard and Elizabeth Barnard are recorded as 30 (therefore between 30 and 34). Elizabeth not bic. In the household is a Hannah Bishop age 28 (b abt 1813)
