Twins birth certificates with no names entered
« on: Friday 02 July 21 13:11 BST (UK) »
Twins I am researching in 1865 each have a birth certificate showing their time of birth, but no names.

They were both baptised three months later when of course they both had names given.

My question is this: would their parents have to have applied for there to be some sort of amendment to be made to the birth certificates at a later date or is some other means used to prove their names.

Thanks in advance for any help

It is quite acceptable for births to be registered with no name - even today it happens occasionally .

If the parents wanted to they could go back to the registration office and have the names added later and they would be shown in column 10, but they didn't have to do it, and many wouldn't bother.

I have a family of eight children, none were given a name on registration except the last daughter. Simply registered as male or female.
