If you google ROCKLODGE YOUGHAL CO CORK it is a substantial house on Quarry Road maybe another option to consider? rgds

I am puzzling over this. Here is Youghal-lands townland
https://www.townlands.ie/cork/imokilly/youghal/youghal-urban/youghal-lands/

This is where you have Edward Walsh renting an acre of land at Rock Lodge

He could well be the same Edward who is in South Main Street in the same townland.

There is nothing to suggest that there were Walshes living at Rock Lodge.

Slaters Directory 1856 shows Edward ‘Welsh’, Saddler at South Main Street.

There is a Mr Edmond Walsh at Gillots Hill - I can’t find a reference to this anywhere though other than Slaters.

Just noticed Gillets Hill on modern maps.

Hmmmmmm.......thankyou you two sleuths!
Ok - it looks like the idea that Bridget had Patrick illegitimately could be wrong.

According to my mother (91) and the granddaughter of Micheal Walsh (b1858) who came to NZ, -

Michael left home at 15 and went to sea. He was helped by Patrick Glavin to get work on a ship and greatly admired him. Had a photo of him in his home. Michael sailed around world, Baltics, USA..( have evidence of him as crewman on St Catherine out of Newport ((age 19yrs) for 4 yrs before coming to NZ on the May Queen 1879.

He told of being 10 or 11 when his father (Edmond) died in the horse accident. After this he said him and his younger sister Bridget (b c1862) lived with different relatives as things were tough while his mother went nursing!!????
So obviously no money/ home left to his mother Bridget..

The story was his mother Bridget then married Mr Glavin BUT I cant seem to find evidence of this.
Perhaps it will just have to remain a family story.

The link to determine Edmonds parents is the main goal...but not knowing Edmonds age when he died I cant link him to anyone.
Was on of those Edward's his father?

I'll keep ferreting away and do truly appreciate your interest and superior research skills.  🙂

The church transcript showing Bridget White marriage to Edmond Walsh 12 Feb 1857, Youghal, Diocese Cloyne just shows Witnesses - not parents.
Is this indicative of anything or normal for the times?

Yes - the death 1870 will give me his age if that is our Edmond.
What is the procedure for sending for original document and will it give reason for death?
If it is accident with horse then ' Bingo'.

Parents were not usually shown on parish records and civil records did not begin until 1864.

A photocopy of a death record is 5 euros - see here

Do you have any NZ records for Bridget? I think you said Michael brought her out.
