GRO online has an Ada Elizabeth Hunt birth 1874 Hinckley - no mmn

I think this is a different Ada Hunt because there is an Ada Hunt with the same birth year who is boarding with a family in 1891 in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

I think she is the Ada born to Peter Hunt & Lucy Noble, as Dave said. They also had another daughter called Beatrice:

Name: Beatrice Annie Noble Hunt
Age:   11
Record Type: Baptism
Birth Date: 7 Jan 1876
Baptism Date: 12 Jan 1887
Baptism Place: Hunslet, St Jude, Yorkshire, England
Parish as it Appears:   Hunslet, St Jude

Her father's profession is listed as 'Traveller' which matches up with Peter's profession on the 1881 census. The strange thing is that Beatrice's birth was registered in 1876 in Leicester but she wasn't baptised until 1887 in Yorkshire (?).

Furthermore, Peter appears to have died in 1883, 4 years before Beatrice's baptism:

Name: Peter Hunt
Age:   33
Estimated Birth Year:   abt 1850
Registration Quarter:   Apr-May-Jun
Death Registration Place:   Leicester, Leicestershire, United Kingdom
Death Date: Jun 1883
Inferred Death Place:   Leicestershire, United Kingdom

EDIT: Just realised you've already seen that.

Queenie  :)
I am relayed to a Hunt family who came from Leicester and lived in Hunslet in the 1880s. Maybe they're related in some way.

I can't access the details right now for the family but they too travelled around all over. My direct line in from a John Hunt who also called himself James.

Many thanks. Odd that I can’t find it on FindMyPast, I’ll search again. I did think it peculiar that he didn’t seem to have married given that Ada was baptised. I couldn’t find the marriage notice on the British Newspaper Archive for that matter, the only thing I’d found was his death notice. I’ll download the marriage notice now you’ve given me the issue to search for.

My speculation about the reason for his marital status on the 1881 Census being blank was obviously rubbish, and clearly there are several errors in that census, because Sarah Light’s husband was a boiler maker from West Ham, not a hawker born in Leicestershire.

I’ve downloaded the marriage notice now, but the marriage registration itself still eludes me, both on FindMyPast and FreeBMD. I wonder if FindMyPast is using FreeBMD indexing, and that it is possibly mis-transcribed on there. OTOH, I can’t find an entry for Lucy Noble either, and two mi-transcriptions would be a bit of a coincidence. Maybe the original copy went astray en route to GRO?

Many thanks for these records. It would seem that Ada followed her mother north.
