Bennett Family
« on: Saturday 10 July 21 16:25 BST (UK) »
I am struggling to find these two people from my tree after the 1851 census. So wondering if some fresh eyes might be able to advise or help.

Both are daughters of Samuel Bennett and Charity Johns.

Firstly is:

Mary Ann Bennett born 1823 in Stoke Damerel (say Devonport on the census)

In 1841 she is with widowed mother Charity. In 1850 I believe she marries William Goddard. Then in 1851 she is in Plymouth with William and daughter Ruth Jane Goddard. After this I can’t find trace of any of them at all.

Secondly is her sister

Elizabeth Bennett born 1828 in Devonport

In 1841 she is at Cumberland Street in Stoke Damerel (a servant)

In 1851 I believe I have found her in Tamerton Foliott as a servant.

Then after this I can’t find trace of her anywhere. She could have married or died, but nothing obvious I can tie her into.

Thank you in advance.

Sep qtr 1851 Elizabeth Bennett m Thomas Pomeroy.
1861census 8 Geo. St. Stoke Dam.
Elizabeth Pomeroy, with a 'boarder' in household Samuel Bennett 67 widr.

Sounds promising?

Unfortunately that’s a different Elizabeth Bennett - father Samuel and mother is Sarah, I just managed to rule it out from the address.

Plus Elizabeth’s father died in 1840, leaving her mother Charity a widow.

Thank you so much,  that’s definitely her I think. So that’s her solved. Now just to find Mary Ann.

Can I ask where you found that info? I can’t see it indexed, was it searching images?

Thank so much

Also in 1851 is a William Bennett born about 1846 with Charity. He is listed as her grandson.

Since Charity only had one son William and I’ve decently discovered her son died young

This William grandson must be a illegitimate child to one of her daughters.

I can’t figure out which one though and can’t trace him after 1851 either.

It was on FindMyPast. However, going on the comment above re Elizabeth aged 29 in Granby Street in 1851, I'm inclined to discard the burial as it appears she may have been the daughter of a Mary BENNETT.
