The nearest that I can locate on old OS maps is Wood end

On yours Gadget, Greno Wood Head is off your map.

My bad, just checked and it was a BT from which I got the info, and having now revisited the Register its thrown doubt about the legitimacy of the transcription

Not sure why you are doubting the legitimacy of the transcription - both are on the same wavelength.  The problem is that the two parish register images show the surname as WALKER, whilst the BT and transcription show the surname as Slater/Slatter.  Which way to go 

Perhaps I'm glad that it's not my family, and therefore my decision.
