Hi all

Does anyone have 3fold? I'm looking to see if there is a date of birth for a William john Coleman of 8 South Staffs regiment born in 1890 and died 23/04/17 on the ww1 pension ledgers 1914-1923

Regards

Jon

Hi Rosie

Thanks for that. The lady I'm looking up William john Coleman has a lot of his war record, but doesn't have his date of birth. The closest we've got is that it was the end of April beginning of May as the 1891 census has him being aged 11months

Have you tried a free trial on Fold 3.  Military records around that time normally only show age in years and months and not the date of birth

This man was previously in the LEICESTERSHIRE REGT. - service number 27193. I have searched Fold3 pension records and can not find anything under his Leicestershire OR his South Staffs numbers.

Just did a 'wild card search' on Fold3 -- I have found a pension card but it is indexed under the service number of 405437 -- the actual number on the card is 40437. His date of birth is not shown. Looking at the layout of the card, there is no area dedicated to record a date of birth.

The card shows that his widow, Amy (DOB 4/6/1891), lived at 16 William Street, Leicester and there were two children - William George (DOB 26/8/1913) and Jack (DOB 22/8/1916)

I can only suggest that the only way to find his DOB is to purchase his birth certificate.
