I am trying to find the person who officiated at my aunts funeral in 2016. A search with Google has resulted in a letter that was published in the Church Times in 2011.

How did you find the 2011 letter - what relevance does it have to your aunt’s funeral?

I was trying to find the officiating cleric, to see whether he could remember anything, hence the original question.

So why I wonder was she buried 12 miles away from where she died.

Do I take it that the headstone that was removed was hers?  Or did it have another name on it?

Her husband died some years before her - she bought and paid for the headstone. They had lived together in that town when he was alive. It was removed on the instruction of the solicitor/executor who said there was no money for it to be put back, and the family weren’t interested - except, as already posted, none of us were informed she’d died, and given the option to do anything.

I'm just wondering if you might get anywhere by writing direct to the Bristol Probate Registry.  Were the solicitors based in Bristol or in the area?

This is the link to their website:-

https://www.find-court-tribunal.service.gov.uk/courts/bristol-district-probate-registry

Just out of curiosity I popped the name of a relative of mine who was a widow and I know that the only item of any real value would have been her house.  She is listed on the Find a Will website and the document is listed as being a grant and will and I could order it if I wished to do so.  I therefore find it really strange that your relative is not listed.

The solicitor was local, but part of a group, probate matters were handled by an office somewhere in Derbyshire, I think. We've also tried that office and they refused also to tell us anything.

It makes you wonder what are they hiding?  I don't know the legal ins and outs of probate and getting to see a will.

Were relations between your mother and her sister bad or did they just drift apart and didn't keep up contact?

Do I take it that Elizabeth and her husband had no children?  Did Elizabeth own the house she was living in or was it rented?

Mum kept in touch, they didn't visit as neither drove. She was married 3 times, 3 children, they'd grown up.and gone - they led their lives, she hers. After her 2nd marriage broke up she lived in rented accommodation. I can understand the estate being so small but why this secrecy? We can't understand it.
