Hi folks

I’m looking for some help to understand what this item is ?

It was found by my neighbour who lives a few doors away whilst rotavating his garden , this is a new development on previously farmed land

What are the chances of this interesting object coming to surface after all these years , I guess this is very very old

And suggestions or help given is very welcome

Ryan

Could be a love token, made by the local blacksmith. A one off  :-\

The cross section seems to resemble an Iron Cross or a Black Cross in shape https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Cross .

Is the former field anywhere near WW2 internment camps?

Deer Park Camp, Monymusk   Aberdeenshire

It is around 4 inches

And I’m
Not aware of any ww2 internment camps in this area but I’m
Sure this area  had its share of war  activity like the rest of the country

Thanks

Ryan

It's a cross patee, with an elongated "foot".

Yes, it's similar to the iron cross, but also similar to St John Ambulance!

There is much land in Aberdeenshire which belonged at one time to the Knights Templars.  Try around Maryculter for a start ... see here ....
