Kris & Debbie

Thank you so much. This has given me alot to go on. Although, I thought he would have been deceased by 1864.

I come from two lines of Baskervilles. My ggg-grandmother Harriot was also a Baskerville, but from Cheshire. She had at least two children by a David Baskerville of Devon. As far as we know, they were never married. (Although, we do have conflicting information).

We had hired a researcher years ago, and he only got as far back as Harriot. The only thing he told us about David was the approximate birth year and place of birth, and that he and Harriot were unmarried. On my gg-grandfather "David (Jr's.) death certificate, it confirmed that he was illegitimate. On David (Jr's) marriage certificate in 1864, it lists his father "David" as deceased, (occupation: Carter). Strangely, though it also lists Harriot as being married, with the maiden name of Baskerville.

David (Sr.) is proving to be the most difficult. I will have to try and find a way to confirm if this is indeed the correct David. Maybe if I find David (Jr.'s) birth certificate it will be able to clarify a few things. Alas, this is my second stumbling block.  ???

Thanks again, and good luck to both on your family history search.

Janice

Hi Janice,

Shame I didn't begin 1851 instead of 1861!

Having Harriot's name I thought I'd have another look.  On the LDS IGI there are two David Baskervilles baptised in Ashwater about the same time.

1)  03 MAR 1807  Ashwater, Devon
Parents: THOMAS & MARY BASKERVILLE

2)  28 SEP 1810 Ashwater, Devon
Parents: DAVID & MARY BASKERVILLE

And here still in Devon is your David Baskerville?

David BASKERVILLE Head M  42 Brewer Ashwater, Devon
Harriot BASKERVILLE Wife M  31 Wife Boot Binder Okehampton, Devon
Walter BASKERVILLE Son 9 Scholar Exeter, Devon
Louisa BASKERVILLE Daur 5 Scholar Exeter, Devon

Cowick Street, St Thomas Apostle St Thomas, Devonshire
HO/107/1867 Folio 200 Page 16

I would have thought there is a good possibility that the two Davids are related - cousins perhaps?

I looked for all David Bask* & only found the one in 1861 so I am guessing yours died 1851-1861 which fits with the marriage you have.

Hope this helps

Debbie  ;)

A Job well done Debbie.  ;D 51 Devon was to be my next stop, alas  I skipped it when I saw your Cornwall 61. Just goes to show how we can be led astray.....Janice will be very pleased with your discovery - perhaps they were married....Kris  :D

Debbie & Kris

Thank you both so much! I believe you have found him.  I can hardly contain my excitement, as this one has been so difficult. Sometimes, they are right in front of us, but we can't see them.

Genealogy brings out the best in people, and it certainly did with both of you.

Good luck and best wishes to you both.

Janice :)

P.S. I just love this site!!!

Janice,

Your David was the Husband of my 3rd Gt Grand Aunt. I have a great deal recorded within my Family Tree, and yet would love to add more in particular to their descendants.
David is recorded as Buried at Stoke Climsland Parish Church, Cornwall on 15 Jan 1893. His wife Jane (nee Philp) also buried there but some years before being on 1 Jan 1871. Daughter Fanny is also recorded as resting there. A memorial may have existed for them but as yet it is not discovered.

I have Parish Record images for example of their Marriage & Burials.

I'd love to share what I have with you, perhaps via email or an invitation for you to view my tree which can be arranged. I do not use this Rootschat very often, but agree it is a fantastic portal to use in genealogy!

I believe you can send me a personal message via my Rootschat User ID, that no one else can see and is therefdore safe to include email addresses etc.

I do hope you are interested and look forwards to hearing from you.

Regards
John
