Working out DNA connection
« on: Thursday 12 August 21 11:34 BST (UK) »
I have a DNA match who I can't find any connection to in my tree.   Our shared matches connect us through both of my paternal grandparents via gg, ggg grandparents and gggg. I think this makes us first cousins and possibly makes my DNA cousin the son or grandson of one of my two paternal uncles.  I have no one on my fathers side to ask. Am I reading this DNA right..or are there other possibilities?

It looks like it could be a 1st cousin but might be further out. It might be worth contacting him and asking what the  equivalent cMs are with those three.

In such cases, I've drawn up a little table to compare the cMs and work out the possible relationships from that; constructing various likely trees.

Thanks. It's 663cm.

That’s an odd number.

Not really close enough to be a cousin, too much to be a 1st cousin once removed.

My wife’s father has some odd numbers like that because his grandfather married his own half-aunt.
