Well done, bbart.
That's another Magdalen Street address on that form.
Edward does (now I've been prompted!) come up with Hawker as occupation inputted in the search on "both" of his 1921 transcriptions, and labourer on one of them. Whether labourer is actually on there at all, I don't know.

Thanks Jon!

Can you make out what Edward wrote in answer to  line "b, amount of other pension" question on that army form?  To me, it just looks like "Stear OP Colchester", which makes no sense.

There were at least 4 newspapers running the same article on the 1904 issue, and 3 of them were basically identical, and referred to Edward as a labourer, and didn't bother naming his wife.  We were lucky that the reporter for the posted article dug a little deeper for details!

I think it's [something] PO [Post Office] Colchester. In other words he's answered the question 'State from whom you receive payment' literally

Head PO?
Though the main Post Office in Colchester was in Head Street! With quite a few sub offices around.

Thanks Andy and Jon.  And darn.... I was really hoping it was an employer or anything that I could use as a keyword for the newspaper hunt!

Thank you so so much everyone. Looking 100% like Edward Lincoln did die in 1922 in Colchester. So I wonder if the 1911 census where Edward was in Betts Buildings, Norwich not him. I am away from home at the moment so can’t check my paperwork. I need to check that as he was born in Purleigh, Essex and that info maybe on the 1911 census and if so then he moved about.

Would his army pension have gone to his wife Mary when she died? Going from memory I believe she died in 1926.

I am so grateful for all your help.

Can someone just explain to be why there was the 1920 form? He had been receiving an army pension for many many years.

Hi everyone

I sent an e.mail to Colchester Cemetery last night and they got back to me midway today!,. How is that for exemplary service. Edward died 2/10/1922 and was buried 7/10/1922 (really quick).

He has a un-purchased grave which means it is not permitted to have a permanent memorial on it and is also buried with other people that have nothing to do with him whatsoever.

They have his age recorded as 69 when in fact he would have been 79/80.

Who would have arranged his funeral if there were no relatives available or prepared to do so?

Just researched state pension in 1919 when it was 10shillings per week which comes to £26 per annum state pension. Edward has £26 as a yearly pension on the 1920 form so he must have been over 70 in 1919 rather than death age of 69 in 2022.
