This marriage for James Malcolm (brother to William?) shows his father as George

....and the marriage for William Malcolm to Mary White in 1859 also shows his father was George, a farmer. William living at Killyclug.

George is the furthest back I have got and he had three sons, William had a brother James but also had a son James. It was this son who moved to Glasgow and interestingly his uncle Alexander died in 1904 at James’s address in Glasgow.
Thanks very much for your information it’s very appreciated.

Have you seen the newspaper snippets - June/July 1849 (I don’t have access). George Malcolm, Killyclug is mentioned with others re legatees of James Smiley’s estate.
I think it is that anyway.  :-\

You can view the snippets as stated on Irish Newspapers - Find my Past or British Newspaper Archives.
Unfortunately you only get the names but sometimes the content can be discerned. It is difficult to define the context but may have American connections.

As my subscription to BNA is finishing shortly, i had a look for James Smiley as mentioned in heywood's reply #10.

Here it is - at least one article from the Armagh Guardian - Monday 16 July 1849
