I've found a flaw in the Kirkandrews Moat School theory! I googled a photo of the school: above the front door is carved in stone "Moat School Erected 1869". This wasn't yet built when my G Grandfather was a "scholar" in 1861. I appreciate your help; if you stumble across an alternative theory please let me know?

The school was founded around 1829 and rebuilt in 1869.

Hi
Just found this page as I was researching my ancestor and came across this.  It would seem the OP and I are related - each descended from the two brothers.  I'm also in Australia.

Thanks for all the info about the area and the railways, as I love piecing together a story and this really helps fill in some info.  It's totally fascinating for me.
