Post-nominal letters
« on: Thursday 19 August 21 11:43 BST (UK) »
Can anyone point me towards a definitive, official list of those military awards that do and don't entitle the recipient to use post-nominal letters to indicate that they have the award, please?

I am particularly interested in the British Army's Meritorious Service Medal.  Having Googled (other web browsers are available  :) ), I have seen some reports that say the recipient was entitled to use "MSM" and some that say they weren't, so I thought it best to try to find the official position.

Many thanks

The CWGC use MSM on their headstones - here is one example:

The award of the MSM does Not entitle the recipient to the use of post-nominal letters. That is from the the Official Ministry of Defence Directive, see image extract.

You're welcome.

I did know because my late husband only used his MBE when necessary, never his MSM. To be certain I checked the Government website,  it's usually  my first port of call to clarify official queries.
