Advice on making my ancestry tree public
« on: Sunday 29 August 21 00:06 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I have now made my ancestry tree public for others to see. Does this mean that all living persons will nor be shown?
Thank you in advance.

Hi Lincoln1955

From Ancestry, Tree Settings - Privacy Settings - Public Trees:
"Information about living people is automatically hidden from others and is NOT included in our search index."
Robbins - Wolverhampton.
Spooner - Monmouthshire & Wolverhampton.
Warner & Loundes - Dudley/West Bromwich.
Dod(g)son - Heysham/Liverpool/Wolverhampton

Thanks for your reply. Trying to fully understand.
So although my tree is now public, any living persons will automatically be hidden? Is that correct?
Thank you in advance.

There ia a tree on Ancestry which includes the living brothers of my ex-husband, I contacted the owner and they made ex-husband private but the others are all still there, also there is one containing my living cousins.

I don't have my tree on Ancestry but I do help people where I can, on another thread I have read that a tree has been altered, presumably without permission, I prefer to have control over my work.

Are you sure you have that correct?

Re 1. Are you sure? Are they really his brothers or merely names that coincide with those of his brothers without giving specific identifying information such as birth dates and locations.

Re 2. As was pointed out in that other thread perhaps the tree owner could have unwittingly given someone editing rights and it is that person who altered the tree. We should not really cast aspersions when we have no proof should we?
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Yes I am sure! One of the wives is also listed. I am obviously no longer in contact with them but I know they are still alive!

I was not casting aspersions, merely putting my point of view.
