That’s a pity.
Is that the discharge record though?
The service record might show more and is, I think, available on FindMyPast. You might be able to access this through your library if it subscribes.

Thomas could have been the child of a soldier serving in Athlone.  :-\

BMD registers on Irish Genealogy.ie are organised by Superintendent Registrar's District which were based on Poor Law Union districts.
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en
Birth, marriage and death registrations from 1854 + non-Catholic marriages from 1845.

Noticed typo. Should be: Birth, marriage & death registrations from 1864 + non-Catholic marriages from 1845.

That's what I thought as well. It may explain why Thomas decided to put that he was born in Gibraltar on a census late in life. Perhaps his dad was in Gibraltar and his mam was in Athlone when he was born and he got mixed up.

I am hoping to discover the parents details of Thomas who on his marriage certificate 1850 are listed as John and Ann Weir.

On his marriage cert it says he is a Gunner in 3rd Brigade Royal Reg. of Artillery.

Some information about Royal Regiment of Artillery on a topic last week "Soldiers of the Artillery Limerick 1809". See my reply #6 on the thread.

Royal Regiment of Artillery was absorbed into Royal Regiment of Artillery as 7th Battalion Royal Artillery after the Union of the Crowns and Parliaments of Ireland and England in 1801.
