Public House 6 Watson's Lane, Greenock
« on: Tuesday 31 August 21 11:59 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Discovered my GG Grandad Michael Bresland of Frosses, Donegal. Owned a property (approx 1880-1914) in 6 Watson's Lane and is described as a Wine & Spirit Merchant. Wondered if anyone knew anything more about this property? Was it a pub/hotel/shop all of these.

Cool, so it was probably a pub then. Hope it was a decent pint  ;D
I have no reason to believe it stayed in family after his death so it must of ended up being owned by the Mcauleys I assume. Is this street "Watson's Lane" demolished?

On 8th April 1902, the Greenock Telegraph reported on the licensing court held that day:

Captain Angus stated there was objection
taken to a renewal to Michael Bresland, 6
Watson's Lane, in regard to a sanitary mat-
ter. Mr Devine, Sanitary Inspector, said
there was a want of urinal accommodation.
Intimation of the requirements was sent to
applicant on 21st December. The applica-
tion was continued for a week.

Captain Angus was the Chief Constable.

Nice find, thanks

Must have been grim that, a bar with no toilets. Hopefully the complaint arose due to guys going outside on street, hope it wasn't for going on the actual bar?!
