Hi Monica, I have managed to get a bit more information from the SA archives.  It seems a WR Finlater of 19 High Street Paisley wrote to the Secretary of the Law Department in South Africa on the 16th Feb 1906 to raise an action of divorce for Christina Stevenson.  Christina was apparently notified by the Agent General for the Cape of Good Hope in London that her husband James was on the 9th March 1904 sentenced at Port Elizabeth to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour for bigamy.  A judgment was taken at the Circuit Court for the District of Port Elizabeth.  I am not sure where to look for the divorce documents but am waiting for a file from the Cape Archives which may shed some light. I read somewhere that he was sent to Cape Town not sure where this punishment would have been?  I would like to work out if he had any children with Agnes Matilda Dirkman between 29th October 2002 and 9th March 1904 when he was punished.  I assume Dirkman's marriage was just annulled?  You may recall he had a child that died in 1906 called Agnes Maria but presumably that was Agnes Stevenson (born Sim's child)?  This is one long story!

I tried looking for the divorce on https://catalogue.nrscotland.gov.uk/nrsonlinecatalogue/search.aspx but haven't been able to find mention.

Her birth details I think are these:

Christina Learm. Douglas
1881
Mother's maiden name McGregor
Bothwell, Lanarkshire
Ref  625 / 1 / 417

So, this is the baptism of Agnes Maria www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVS4-N1QR in 1906.

Mother certainly showing as Agnes. Question is, which one!
