Hi Fiona

Are his previous regiments mentioned in his military papers?

There is this entry:

James Stevenson, Age 21 (born c. 1877 in Glasgow)
Enlistment 25 Nov 1898 at Kilmarnock Scotland
Regiment: 21st Foot (Royal Scots Fusiliers)

I have a possible for the family in 1891 in Kilmarnock. James, age 12, William age 9, & John, age 7. I think father, John, remarried to a Margaret Dunlop in 1890. On the census it gives John's age as 30 & margaret as 29. Cannot be sure about these without buying some credits. The SP ref is 597/8/15

Yes, great find  ;)

I think second wife Margaret Dunlop died in Kilmarnock in 1906, aged 45.

Just looking at that too.

The 1908 shipping manifest shows Norman travelling with a Mrs Minnie Stevenson, wife of a butcher. So from this, John Snr, must have travelled over before his family. Also, a third marriage for him?
