Thanks again for confirming that, BumbleB...
The one very small detail that puzzles me is that George Frederick BUTCHER's baptism is recorded on 4th May 1875 whereas his birth registration is not until the 4th quarter 1875 (Oct/Nov/Dec) in the GRO.  Maybe the family took a while to register the birth, though I always thought there was a time limit to that...

I've re-checked the image and it definitely says 4 May 1875.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

It may be that the baptism of Fred is for a different child. I also note that this was a private baptism.

Consider these :

Birth Butcher Fred Jul - Sep 1872 St Ives Union mmn Webb

Death Butcher Fred April - June 1875 Uppingham RD age 2

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)

Ah, thanks very much for that further info, William,
Not quite sure what to infer from that, its significance.  Perhaps the Fred BUTCHER baptism (and subsequent soon afterwards death ) was a different individual.  Though George and Elizabeth are given as his parents.  Might have to spend that £11 after all on that 4th quarter 1875 birth entry at the GRO to check on things...

Oh, good, who do I do that through, BumbleB?
Nothing like a bit of economising to save the price of a pint!  Very nice place in Glaston last time I was there, for a drink and a bite to eat recently , The Old Pheasant Inn, btw...

Well I never, I've always paid over the odds then for a paper version through the post...
Thinking more lucidly about this BUTCHER  family, entirely possible then that their first son Frederick was born in 1872 when they were still living in the Colne/St Ives area of Hunts, and then when he became a poorly little soul and perhaps not expected to live long, after for whatever reason they had moved to Glaston, they had him baptised in May 1875.  Almost certainly while his mother Elizabeth was pregnant again with George Frederick.  Who arrived towards the end of the year but was not baptised there.

The pdf option came into force in 2017, I believe.  As for your thoughts on the Butcher family, you are probably correct, and that possibly George Fred born in 1875 was given that second forename in memory of his brother.
