What was Margaret's maiden name and when did she marry?
« on: Sunday 05 September 21 13:49 BST (UK) »
Thomas NEWINGTON son of Thomas NEWINGTON & Mary UNKNOWN b 21 May 1702 at Selmeston married Margaret UNKNOWN.  The couple had issue the only I can locate are:

Mary bap 16 Sep 1732
John bap 27 Sep 1734

No more after that at Selmeston nor can I locate any burials.

Mary may have married Joseph PIPER of Selmeston 9 May 1748.  John may have married Alice ALCHORNE 19 May 1743 at Selmeston.

However I can't locate what became of Thomas and Margaret NEWINGTON nor can I locate Margaret's maiden name.

Input gratefully received.

Also any opinions as to the two possible marriages for a John NEWINGTON and a Mary NEWINGTON as above please.

John and Mary would be too young for those marriages if they were baptised as infants, but if they were several years old at baptism, then a possibility.

Thomas 1702 also had a brother John, bapt 27 Dec 1706 at Selmeston, possibly his marriage. There is also a brother Lawrence bapt 27 Dec 1711.

There baptisms at Chalvington (1.5 miles from Selmeston) of Ann 2 July 1697 and Mary 26 Oct 1699, parents Thomas and Mary - might be Thomas jnr's older sisters.

There's a baptism at Rottingdean of a Laurence Newington on 15 April 1740, s/o Thomas and Margaret. Could this be a brother to John and Mary of Semeston and named after Thomas's brother?

A possibility for Thomas snr marriage
Thomas Newington married Mary Avery on 15 Oct 1696 by lic at Ripe, Sussex. Ripe is about a mile from Chalvington. Thomas snr could be the one baptised in Ripe on 18 feb 1666 s/o Thomas and Anne.

Burial for Anne Newington on 08 Oct 1698 at Ripe. note says died at Hellingly 5/10

Also in Ripe but much later burial of Alice Newington 27 Jun 1746. transcript on FindMyPast. Note says 'Mrs' w  Mr John. Could be Alice nee Alchorne
Use of Mr and Mrs might imply some social status
