I am not sure what the secret of longevity is, but at 80 I must be getting close to finding out  :)

What I really want to know is the secret of how to have a pleasant passing, I would like to emulate my
grandma, they went shopping, sat in the car watching the sea for a while, back home, unload the shopping and sitting in her favourite rocking chair said.   ee  Bob I do feel tired, and went.

My great uncle lived to 97 years.  He was the youngest of six and had four wives.  It seemed that he lived with them, married them then got itchy feet and moved on.  Never met him but my mother spoke fondly of him.

I always remember seeing an interview with Jeanne Louise Calment on TV where she partly attributed her long life to chocolate and cigarettes.

She made herself daily fruit salads with bananas and oranges. She enjoyed chocolate, sometimes indulging in a kilogram (2.2 lb) per week. After the meal, she smoked a Dunhill cigarette and drank a small amount of port wine.

Even I couldn't eat a kilo of chocolate in a week but I guess I could try harder  ;D

Debra  :)

I wonder if it was dark chocolate. Red wine and dark chocolate contain flavenoids. So do fruit & veg.
Dark chocolate was the item featured on "Just One Thing" this afternoon on Radio 4. Recommended ration is 1 or 2 squares.
Jeanne Calment kept active until near the end of her life. She was mentally alert too.

Keeping active seems to be a good idea generally, but then I don't think my stepfather ever voluntarily walked anywhere as he got older, and spent much of his later life sitting in his armchair being looked after by mum! (He was a lovely man and lived to very near his 90th birthday.)

Keeping active seems to help enormously.

My mum, currently 93, bemoans the fact that a dose of shingles caused 6 months of pain, with accompanying problems exercising. The various painkillers now seem to be getting the upper hand, so she now feels much brighter. She is the sort to run across the road rather than wait for the large gap in traffic. She finds that she can walk properly much better than do the slow shuffle common in many older people.

Tomorrow her older sister will walk the half mile to spend a few hours with her. Her brain is not as active as mum's. Mum has always enjoyed puzzles such as cryptic crosswords. Her sister has the beginnings of Alzheimer's, so can be quite hard work at times. However, it was only the lockdown last year which stopped her twice weekly visits to the gym.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

"Her brain is not as active as mum's."

Maybe she should take up poultry theft.
