My question related to Bertha Marie Hanson (born in Denmark on March 21st, 1832 as Birthe Marie Prebensen, later on August 15th, 1856 married Hans Madsen). She had 4 sons: Peder, Preben, Mads and Hans. While living in Denmark her husband passed away in 1872 at the age of 70. 10 years later Bertha's 3 eldest sons immigrated to Wisconsin in the USA, and the story goes that she and youngest son Hans immigrated followed them in 1889 and Bertha became known as Bertha Marie Hanson.

So for years it has unknown what name exactly did she use to immigrate to the USA with. And it was just today I discovered an emigration record with the name Marie Prebensen (please see attached image). I have tried to search the New York lists but I came up empty.

If anybody could kindly confirm to me that the Marie Prebensen is Birthe and when they arrived in New York that would be fantastic.

I do not know if my message got to you. But There one family member I am not sure of, Bertha's husband, Hans Madsen. I do not have any offical records about him. Unofficially (word of mouth) I was told he was born 21st March, 1802 in Denmark.
Officially I do know he died on the 27th July, 1872 in Vejle, Denmark.
I do not know if he had brothers or sisters. I suspect he may have married twice as the gap between Birthe Prebensen and himself was about 30 years.
