St Cecilia's RC junior/infant school, Snaefell Ave., Tuebrook
« on: Thursday 16 September 21 16:55 BST (UK) »
These children would have  started school in 1929 and attended till 1935 before going on to senior schools. I'd like, if possible, to narrow the date the photo was taken.
My problem is the wee girl at the front who is obscuring the date and class number on the placard.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate any and all suggestions of places to enquire about the date/ suggestions about how old the children may have been.

The holy grail would be if someone else has a copy of the photo and also had a Granny/ Great Granny who helpfully noted the date on the back:-)

I know this is a long shot, but God loves a trier!

Sorry, I'm sure that that photograph is later than 1929.

I have a similar photo of myself at primary/junior school and it must be after the end of WW2 (I was born 1942).

I, of course, stand to be corrected.

Interesting, BumbleB, could you tell me what it is about the photo that leads you to believe it was taken post WW2?

One of the boys was my late Pa in law. He was born 1924 , attended St Cecilia's from 1929 to 1935 (all verifiable, from documents I have, his own memories and those of his sister) before moving on to an all boys senior school, so this photo was definitely taken 1929-1935.

Oh don't be sorry, I always welcome opinions and that could have been really helpful if I wasn't so certain about the history of the photo.

My gut feeling is that its towards the end of his time at St Cecilia's, so maybe 1933-1935 but to be honest even he wasn't able to tell me which year.

The school seems to still exist they might be interested in the photo and be able to help with a date. The children look around 9ish to me.

I’d agree it’s probably right at the end of your time span Boo, the ubiquity of girls with short fringed bobs and white ankle socks put it mid to late 30s, ditto the boy with zip up jacket in the back row. Maybe try a Google image search for school photos dated 1934 to 1938, even 1940, for comparison of clothing/hair styles?

Thanks Gibel, that's a god idea. I'll fire off an email tomorrow :-)

Will do Annie, though 1940 is a bit too late, in 1939 he was at senior school and evacuated to Llannelly along with  most of the other boys.
