1841/1851 Windsor Look-up Please for NOBLE
« on: Wednesday 31 August 05 19:33 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Could someone have a look in the 1841 (a big ask I know) and 1851 Windsor, Berkshire census for:-

Thomas Smith NOBLE born c.1780

A John Smith NOBLE b1825 Windsor, hopefully his son :), is listed in the 1861 at 10 Charles Street, Clewer, Windsor.
I believe that Thomas may have been in the Union Workhouse in 1851, but I'm hoping (against hope I suspect ;)) that he might have been in better circumstances in 1841 and may even be living with a wife or children.

Could you also have a look for an Elizabeth Smith NOBLE born c.1823 [/b]Windsor in the 1841 (I know she married in 1843). Hoping she is Thomas's daughter.

The Smith part of the name is a second forename, not a double-barrelled "Smith-Noble" sort of thing - sometimes the name is given in full, other times just S. and sometimes not at all!

I would be really grateful if someone would be willing to have a look for me :)

Thanks

Yes please Esme, the 1841 info would be great :)

Thanks very much for the info so far - very gratefully received. I'd almost given up on getting a response on this one.

So far haven't been able to locate Thomas or John in the Census area of Windsor however I came across an Elizth (which I take is Elizabeth) SMITH aged 17 born Berkshire.  She appears to be in the employ of a Henry Brown - Surgeon.

The entry in parts is very difficult to read but will do my best.

1841 Berkshire Census - New Windsor
H.O.107/37/l page 5

Henry Brown 35  Surg. Not in Berks
Emma Brown 28  Ind    Not in Berks
Thomas Brown 36 Ind   Not in Berks
Edward Andrews 26 Assistant Not in Berks

Elizth Smith           17   FS         Born Berks

Hopefully this is your Elizabeth.  Will come back to you if I manage to catch up with the other two!

Thanks for perservering Esme :)

I so want to find John (and possibly brother Charles b. abt 1825) at home with parents!!

As for the 1851 listing for Thomas, are you certain it's Yeaton, Somerset? The only Yeaton I can find is in Shropshire ???

Hi  :(

Have double checked the entry and it is shown as Yeaton Som unfortunately.  The nearest I know to it is Yatton in North Somerset.

:(  Well the early bird hasn't caught the worms.  However, Thomas wasn't in the Union Workhouse which is good news.  Do you know where Elizabeth was married?  Might give a lead.
