Wilton? marriage place in Wortley Reg District
« on: Monday 20 September 21 04:58 BST (UK) »
I have a FamilySearch record for Stephen Fox m. Elizabeth Crapper at Wilton, Yorkshire on 4 April 1857 (Marriages Jun 1857; Crapper Elizabeth &  Fox Stephen Wortley 9c 183).
At that time he was from Brown Hills lane area, Fulwood, Sheffield she from Stannington.
I cannot find a place called Wilton anywhere around. Can anyone work out where they were married?
Regards
Dennis

I must admit the records I can find on Family Search don't mention Wilton   :-\

Wow thanks Kay - that's the one. That was fast and the date is 10 April not 4 April.
There are 2 records on Family Search - the other one says Wilton and this is reproduced on findmypast.
Anyway got it now and you've introduced me to FreeReg which I haven't looked at for many years.
Regards
Dennis

Though it seems Wilton is now redundant in this thread but for future reference it is just off Wortley road near Rotherham

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth
