Both the Hills and the Colliers (George's maternal and paternal grandparents) had enough money to do this.  In addition, Catharine had brothers and sisters who were professionals.  I am sure that they would not have wanted to see one of their own in a pauper's grave.

George had 2 older sisters who were in the care of their paternal grandparents.
