KT,

It all changed when Auckland became Auckland Super City, and the boundaries changed. :)

I think the Land Deeds will be held by Archives. Years ago I searched for those in Otago around the same era and it is just a matter of knowing how to search. Which I have now forgotten how to do.  ::)

You can browse the registers on line and then order any documents if required.

I suggest you e-mail Archives and I'm sure when out of lock down someone will guide you through the process.  :)

Hello.

1868 is a very early date, and I would have expected the family name to have appeared in an Archives search, if a Crown grant was involved. Likewise PapersPast covers published lists of completed grants being available for collection etc. Local interest groups have assembled data from early highways board minutes which can also be helpful.

There are a number of Journals and published diaries that also mention local settlers pre, and post the conflicts of 1863 - 1865.

I have researched a number of Waikato ones, of that era, at the Auckland branch of Archives NZ.

Feel free to PM me with any details, and I can make enquiries with my South Auckland contacts. I have ties back to the early settlement of Pukekohe East.

PS.

Have you read these notes published 120 years ago.

http://nzetc.victoria.ac.nz/tm/scholarly/tei-Cyc02Cycl-t1-body1-d3-d2-d15.html

Editorial notes were compiled by the publisher, and their agents. Personal profiles were submitted by the people who subscribed to the publishing of the various volumes covering New Zealand. The books were progressively published in the late 1890's and early 1900's.
