Too many Josephs
« on: Saturday 25 September 21 12:08 BST (UK) »
Joseph Oldroyd had a son, Robert born in October 1758 in Sandal Magna

So I'm looking for the marriage of Joseph circa 1758 in or around Sandal Magna so that I can track the correct Joseph but also the mother of Robert too.

I initially found the marriage of Joseph and Elizabeth Wright just up the road in Dewsbury in February 1758, and both are listed as of the parish of Sandal Magna.

A direct hit I thought until, i then found a second marriage in Sandal Magna itself of Joseph Oldroyd and Mary Martin in May 1759, and then just for good measure I then found a third, in August 1757 between Joseph Oldroyd and Eleanor Parker in Dewsbury

Have to say that as helpful sometimes as naming patterns are in helping identify family members, it can also be a hinderance.

I suspect all the above Oldroyds are ultimately related in some way.

I'm tending to go for Joseph and Elizabeth at the moment, simply because i've also traced a document that lists the resettlement of the poor of Sandal Magna (in this case "Joseph Oldroyd, Elizabeth his wife and their son Robert" in nearby Darfield in October 1760
