Frederick Egger FOLD
« on: Tuesday 28 September 21 10:42 BST (UK) »
Frederick Egger FOLD was born on 05 May 1849 in Lewes, the illegitimate son of Mary Ann FOLD. He was baptised on 01 Jul 1849 at St Ann's in Lewes.

In 1851, he was living in Lewes with his grand-parents, Henry (65) and Elizabeth (54) FOLD.

He then disappears until 1876, when he married Elizabeth POCOCK at Guildford RO, by which time he was a bricklayer. I have found him in all subsequent censuses, as well as his second marriage to Rosina RIDDLE.

I can't, however, find him in either 1861 or 1871, which I find surprising given his distinctive middle name.

As always any help appreciated.

Mary Ann married William Penfold 1850 Lewes. Frederick appears under the name Penfold in 1861 census in Farnham, Surrey.

Ah! So simple! I didn’t even consider a marriage for his mother. Interesting that he reverted to Fold.

Many thanks

I'm am now looking for Frederick Fold's burial. He died on 06 May 1913 at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Guildford. Both of his wives were buried at St Nicholas in Guildford: Elizabeth FOLD (née POCOCK) on 11 Jan 1878 and Rosina FOLD (née RIDDLE) on 22 Mar 1922. Yet having looked at the records for 1913, I can't find Frederick at St Nicholas or indeed anywhere else.

Any ideas as to why he wouldn't be buried in the same churchyard as his two wives? Or where he could be buried?

Wee bit confused  ??? - the Royal Sussex County Hospital is in Brighton in Sussex.  Did you mean the Royal Surrey ?

Is it possible that he was cremated?

The Royal Surrey was on the Farnham Road close to his house at Millmead  ;D.  It is now known as Farnham Road hospital, the newer hospital near the A3 is the Royal Surrey

The nearest crematorium at that time was Woking.
