James Burchatt RAGGETT
« on: Tuesday 28 September 21 16:44 BST (UK) »
James Burchatt RAGGETT was baptised on 08 Feb 1852 at Godalming. His father was William Raggett, a baker. His mother was Harriet Raggett (née Hill).

I am, however, unable to find a BMD record for his birth. The 1861 census suggests that 1852 is a reasonable starting point for a search, as he was aged 9 on the census.

I also cannot find him on the 1871 census.

Any help much appreciated.

I realise I was looking at a different family in 1851 - hence the reference to Hambledon.

I’m not sure why I think she was a Hill. It was a note in my records that I cant find anything to substantiate.

I would have thought the district would be Guildford.

There are Hill births in Guildford.

1861 427/54/57

Harriett Raggett   46 yrs
James Raggett 9 yrs
Mary Jane Raggett 5 yrs
Albert Raggett 3 yrs

Albert mmn Hill
Mary Jane mmn Hill

Perhaps James was not registered for some reason - just baptised.  :-\

I notice that there isa JAMES BURCKETT, aged 19, born in 1852, an Ordinary Seaman born in Guildford, who was in the Royal Navy in the 1871 census and on board HMS Immortalite [RG10 5781 137 13].

Could James BURCKETT be James BURCHATT RAGGETT?
