FreeBMD shows the birth registration as Mary Eva Marke - December quarter 1890 - Wellington, Somerset RD.

Forgive me if this sounds obvious to you, but how did you find this census information? When I am using FreeCen and entering her name and birth year, I'm not getting any results at all.

Ah, ok. Thanks. I am actually on Ancestry, so I'll take a look there.

Sorry, I'm still pretty new to all this.

I did a DNA test too, so I am hoping that sheds a little light on who I am.

Concur completely with trish1120 - just about to post myself but she beat me to it.

A number of trees on ancestry incorrectly show his father as Stephen Marke - from his birth and subsequent marriage we know William Hillier Marke was illegitimate.

Did find a couple of trees that state mother was Amelia Sophia Marke b.22/11/1827, bp.27/1/1828 West Buckland, dau. of Samuel and Elizabeth (who married a Henry Allen in 1864) but no source given of proof.

Unfortunately, the only way you can determine who his mother was is to purchase his 1858 birth certificate.   Would seem a certain Mr. Hillier was likely his father and there some likely candidates with this surname in Newport.
