Michael Butler, Ashford C1919
« on: Thursday 30 September 21 18:19 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to help a colleague to find info on his Gt. Uncle.

Michael Butler (Possibly middle name of Vincent) was born in Kilkenny C1888, from his war records we know that when he joined up (13/08/14, he also stated that he had previously served 4 years with the Buffs) he gave his employer as Lady Northcote of Eastwell Park, and when he was demobbed, he gave his forwarding address as Eastwell Park, Ashford, but after that I can't find anything?

Thanks in advance

IanC

Are you only interested in Michael after his leaving the army - 1919 onwards?.

Have found him on the 1911 Census in Kent - the occupation "fits" his 1914 attestation record. His next of kin on that record are "Father - John Butler" (crossed out) and replaced with "Mrs Butler",
with address "Clonmore, Piltown".

His place of birth is quite specific on the 1911 Census but struggling to find his birth registration on Irish Genealogy.

Why did I say Kent - it's Hertfordshire!
Yes, as you say, the age on the 1911 puts him 2yrs older than attestation . I am very careful about posting 1911 Census info - hence didn't disclose anything re the Census.
I checked Irish Genealogy for both Kilkenny and the 1911 PoB that places him outside Kilkenny - but drew a blank.

There are 2 Michael Butler's on the 1911 census.

One age 23 in the 2nd Royal Irish Fusiliers. Place India piece 34991

The other age 25 in the 1st Royal Dublin Fusiliers, Place Ceylon & India piece 34997

Since he had previously served prior to 1914

Not sure if this is the  Michael you want.

Who was the relative? It might have been best to start there.

There is a published tree with a Michael Vincent Butler b 1885, Tipperary.
I only post this because of the name and it is the only one I can see.

I don’t have access to the military record to compare anything.
