Isaac Cox and Mary Cox (Allen) - Rampton/Willingham/Cottenham
« on: Friday 01 October 21 09:30 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am trying to find more information about Isaac Cox born Abt 1735 and Mary Cox (Maiden name Allen), born Abt.1739 in Cottenham.  They were married in Rampton in 1760 and had three sons.  One of them, John, is my ancestor.  I found a Land Tax Redemption for Isaac in 1798, in Rampton but then I can find no trace of their deaths or burials.  There are some other Isaac's and Marys but not in Cambridgeshire.  Their sons stayed in the area.  I have tried to find online Parish and grave records but no luck.  I also can;t find Isaac's birth/baptism record anywhere. I am in Scotland so can't easily visit the area. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

It looks like three of Isaac’s children married at Rampton, records on freereg names witnesses but does not help much.

Elizabeth COX to George WARING Marriage   19 Oct 1783
William COX to Lydia WATES   Marriage   12 Oct 1795
Mary COX to Edward INGLET   Marriage   09 Jul 1804

I note the baptism of Mary, parents John & Alice (Witness at Mary’s marriage maybe)

Mary ALLEN Baptism   13 May 1739   Cambridgeshire   Cottenham : All Saints : Other Transcript

There was an earlier Mary born to them in 1737who was buried 2 Mar 1739

I wonder if Isaac was somewhat older, father William abode Doddington

Isaac COX   Baptism   12 May 1723   Cambridgeshire   Doddington: St Mary : Parish Register.

No burial records I'm afraid.

Colin

Welcome to rootschat

The 1760 marriage banns transcript notes that they were both of the parish (Rampton) and bachelor and spinster.

They also had a son Isaac who was baptised at Rampton 16 October 1760
Burials at Rampton have a burial for probably this Isaac 28 July 1813 age 52

There are also burials at Rampton on the NBI for an Isaac Cox 06 December 1801 and 14 July 1803 but neither mention an age at death.  There was a baptism of an Isaac in 1798 (parents Isaac & Susan) so possibly he was one of the deaths

Hello,

Thank you both so much.  That information is all very helpful and I didn't know about the Freereg site so I can use that for other searches now too.  Thanks again,

Cate
