Llanllyfni address for Parry family
« on: Friday 01 October 21 13:09 BST (UK) »
My gt.gt.gt. grandparents were Robert and Ann Parry nee Roberts. Robert b. 1785-died 1865; Ann born 1786 -died 1860.  Address Tyn Llan, Llanllyfni.  This address appears in census for many of their descendants.
Is it a house, row of houses, street, or a hamlet?

Kay,

Many thanks for your information; makes sense , as Henry Parry (1809) was purported to be manager of Ty'n' y Weirglodd Quarry.  HIs father Robert Parry  (1785) manager of Cloddfa' r Lon Quarry.

Henry Parry's sister Catherine 1813, was my gt.gt.grandmother.

Looking at the 1861 census, I would say Ty'n Llan is the house next to the church

https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3454470

https://www.google.com/maps/@53.0439534,-4.2827425,3a,75y,341.88h,92.92t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s8pb1S1Qyrp165G2sHH80LQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

I would agree as Tyn LLan translates to next to the church Ty'n = next to; Llan = Church whereas Llwyn = bush or brushland

I've also followed the family to 1881 (Daniel, their son) and Ty'n Llan is recorded right next door to the Rectory which is shown in the map linked above... the census then continues up Rhedyw Road which is the main street up from Rectory towards Fort Tavern.

I also tried google and here is the current address  Tyn Llan,  Rhedyw Road, Llanllyfni, Penygroes, Llanllyfni, Caernarfon, Gwynedd, LL54 6SN.  There are still Parry's living at the property today.   I wonder if they are related ?
Nesta

EDIT - Daniel livesthere up to 1901 but the name has been mistrancrbed in 1891.   He is easily found in 1901 on FindMyPast but not A*y.   N

I was interested to read that Robert Parry was manager of Cloddfa'r Lon, since it's a quarry with little info about it. I'd only previously heard about it through looking at the death there of a quarryman there. I visited the area while on holiday, to see where the quarry would have been. Fascinating area, so I was lucky to visit before they tried restricting access.

Sam,
I was given a little info on my ancestors and their connections to quarries in Caernarvonshire, including  Cloddfa'r Lon, by Dr. G.P. Jones, who has written about the quarries and the  managers.
Can't remember the name of the publication, sorry  :'(
