And what about this birth?

SOMERVILLE  ELLEN 18689/1873 CHARLES ANNA SOFALA

That would mean Charles came to Australia before 1868 marriage
Returned to England for 1871 census
Back to Australia for conception of Ellen, which would have to be after the 1871 Nov marriage in an earlier reply.
Back to England for 1881 census.

A family tree has his father as Henry and his mother as Frances Rogers.

However the tree also says he married in Australia 1868 so what was he doing back in Paddington in 1871  :-\

Quote
He was christened 17 February 1845
Maughold, Isle of Man.

Who were the parents on that?

I'm a bit late on this thread, but:

Parish Register entry reads
Charles Edwd son of Henry Somerville, surgeon, and Francis Rogers, his wife
Baptised 17 Feb 1845, born 15 Jan 1845
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

I have attached Annie Marie's birth certificate. All I am 95% certain that Charles Edwin is my 3rd great grandfather. Just unsure of most of the rest.

Thank you for that.

So on that birth certificate, Charles Edwin’s place of birth is London.

Do you have some other documentation that indicates the Isle of Man?

Added. I think it would be worth getting the 1868 marriage certificate. I am fairly sure, but others with NSW expertise might correct me, that it should have his place of birth.

Yes, the NSW bdm would be useful... BUT .... while it should have first hand nfo about the bride and the groom ... age, where born, occupation, parents, including nee names for their mums,  etc, that depth of detail may have been kept back by the clergy when submitting the marriage info to the then civil  BDM processes.  It will be on the church registers.  NSW bdm website acknowledges that they did not complete all the tasks of fully reconciling their meagre summary holdings with all the various church registers.

There is a thread in NSW resources giving info on seeking out those elusive blanks.  But step 1 starts with official transcripton of NSW bdm.... don't spend up on the real deal expensive certificates.   Let me know if you need further details on this.
