Just out of interest: What is the name of the man you're researching? Do you have any other details for him (e.g. birth, marriage, death) ??

Hillhurst, thanks for asking.
I will send you a private message.

At this stage I don't want to place a name on here (and possibly look foolish!).
I'd rather try & solidify things by consulting those Muster Books first.

But I'm happy to 'chat' informally if you wish.

Thank you :-)

Ancestry (which I use) also has muster books for the Great Lakes, however the man I'm looking for belonged to a crew which transferred from the FANTOME in very early 1814.

Because the FANTOME crew were existing RN sailors in 1814, the Muster books don't give any details of the men's origins - frustrating!

I've followed the Great Lakes muster books through from 1813 - 1817/18 and there aren't any further details given for crews who transferred from elsewhere. The muster books and pay-lists only give the name of their previous ship.

So we're wondering how to proceed from here, given that the FANTOME lists are in London and the wait to see copies could be many months.
