Crispes in Birchington, Isle of Thanet
« on: Tuesday 12 October 21 09:56 BST (UK) »
Looking for any information on the Crispe family (of Rev Henry Crispe and his wife Anne Percy) who moved from Yorkshire to either London or Birchington on or just after 1698.

The Rev. Henry Crispe died in 1737 and his sons Henry and Thomas in 1747 and 1756-57 respectively.
Transcriptions of these entries and any other Crispes would be very much appreciated.
Rev Henry's widow was alive in 1740 and I'm looking for her death / burial. Also there was a daughter Anne who died unmarried but no idea when?

All info gratefully received.

Many thanks,
Craig

Hi grandarog,

Many thanks for your reply.

Yes, I'm almost certain Anne Crispe remained and died unmarried. The marriage record you [posted must be another one and it's too late.

I know now my Anne Crispe was baptised at Catton with Stamford Bridge, co. Yorks. 21st May 1691. She and her parents, the Rev Henry Crispe and his wife Anne percy, moved from Catton to either London or Kent in or around 1698.

Thanks, Craig

Hi Craig - do you have the 1901 book "History of the Crispe Family" by Bernard J. Cigrand ??
It's online (see Google books). According to this book, Rev Henry Crispe had "only issue male".
Could the unmarried Anne you mention be the daughter of another Crispe? Perhaps a niece of Rev Henry?

Weren't sons Henry and Thomas affiliated with Customs House, London? In fact, Henry was Registrar of Certificates and Examiner of Debentures.

Transcriptions of these entries and any other Crispes would be very much appreciated.

Just curious: do you have an Ancestry sub? Transcriptions are on Ancestry.

Henry - bur 23 Oct 1747, Birchington, Kent.
Thomas - 11 Jan 1757, Birchington, Kent.

Henry and Thomas Crispe's wills are on Ancestry:

Henry Crispe of Custom House London, pr 4 Nov 1747

Thomas Crispe Esq of Westham, Essex pr 10 Jan 1757

Hi Top-of-the-hill and Hillhurst,

Thanks so much for your replies and information.

Unfortunately I haven't subscribed to Ancestry, although I'll probably end up doing so soon!!!

Yes, I've noted the available online details about Thomas and Henry. In fact there are portraits of Rev Henry Crispe, his wife Anne Percy and the son Henry by Thomas Frye which has made them seem more real, not just the names!

Thanks both for the burial details, etc.

Any narratives online indicate that the daughter Anne died unmarried and as the moved from cotton around 1698 I presume her burials would be London or, hopefully, Birchington. Unfortunately I have no idea when she died.

Her mother Anne Percy Crispe was apparently alive c. 1740-41 and I was hoping she would have been buried at Birchington, Kent. If you find anything I'd be very grateful.

Regards,
Craig
