It is still possible they are the same Joseph,  he could have split with Sarah some time after the conception of Elizabeth and moved to Nottinghamshire for a new start. The fact the birth of Emma in 1852 has no mmn suggests he was not the father and Sarah maybe used his details on the baptism to save face. Joseph Sowden may have taken the role of father even if he was not. I'll see if I can figure out how he was related.

Thanks, Comberton. Yes, I suppose it could be him and they split up but because of the cost of divorce they just chose to abandon the marriage. Proving it is difficult though.
