Will 1738 - West Riding
« on: Wednesday 13 October 21 21:20 BST (UK) »
Hi
I would really appreciate help with the 7th word?

The line reads: the Barn, the Shippon, the Out ?, the Dye House

The testator is a Clothier is that helps.

Cheers Karen

Can you post a bigger clip for comparison of letters please Karen.
At first it looks like 'shed', but unless he does different 'e's and 'd's in this one word to the rest of them in this little clip, that looks highly unlikely.
Plus there's no 't' at the end of a word in this little clip to compare that last letter with.

Added:
According to this dictionary, an 'outshut' is
Outshut – A subsidiary range parallel and contiguous to the main range of a building, and with a roof of single pitch.

Hi goldie61

Thank you for your help.

Attached are 2 words ending in t and a word with a u.

Looking at them, I think you are right and the word is outshut.

Thank you for the link

Here is a link to Heritage Gateway which describes a building at Ludlow as having a brick outshut.

The 't's at the end of the words in the new clips are a good match, so it indeed does look like 'outshut'.
