Kirkham in Helsby
« on: Thursday 01 September 05 09:53 BST (UK) »
I have found a Thomas Kirkham in my family tree.  I have his will from the Cheshire record office, and it would appear that he was more than the average ag-lab.

I think he died in 1821, but that and what is in the will is all I know about him.  I do know hs soons and daughters and also his wife.

I wondered if anyone could shed any light on the family at all, or how to move forward and find out extra info?

Paul

Hi Paul,
You don't say if you know how old he was?
The I.G.I. (on-line version) has several Thomas Kirkham's baptised from 1585-1810 at St Lawrence Church, Frodsham which is a good possibility for a Helsby family.
Have you checked to see if Thomas and his wife appear on the I.G.I.? or maybe some of his children's baptisms to give you an idea which parish they may have lived/worshipped at?
Parish Records will probably need to be your next option - from the date on the will you will at least have a good idea when he died so a burial should be easier to find and this may well give you age at death from which you can start to track down a date of birth. (some wills will say when the testator died when the date of probate is given, sometimes on the reverse)
If you can post the names of his wife and family then someone might recognise one of them.
Regards,
odessa.
