Now that you have Barbara's DoB (6 Dec), check Scotland's People website to see if you can find a birth record for her in 1867 or 1868. To view images and confirm DoB, you will need to purchase credits. https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Searching the year range of 1867-1868 returned 12 results for her name. To view one image costs 6 credits. So in theory, you'll need to purchase 80 credits (£20.00). However, if she is amongst those 12 results, you will have her father's name, his occupation, and mother's maiden name. Good information for taking the family further back.

If you want to save a few credits, compare the 12 SP records to Scottish birth/baptisms on Ancestry. Example: You can disregard the Barbara Mcdonald birth in Bridgeton, Glasgow, due to her 8 Jul 1868 DoB given on Ancestry. Same for the BM born 1867 in Old Monkland (her DoB is 18 January). And so on...

Hopefully the 6 December DoB she gave on the 1901 census is correct.  :-\

No problem, sorry we haven't got anything positive for you.   Have you any other small clues you could give us ?

Someone may correct me but I don't think parents would be indicated in the detail view of a Manitoba marriage record. I believe one would need to order the cert to see these details.

There is no guarantee that Norman and Barbara's parents would be on their 1891 marriage cert but you might consider purchasing it in case they are.

We search for information but it is up to the thread owner to verify that it is correct.

If this was Barbara McDonald - the birth date on the 1900 census would be incorrect  (not unusual)

Barbara McDonald - 12 August 1864 - 27 December 1939 (Crawford Park Manitoba)
Age at Death 75
Death Place Sw3 20 20, Manitoba, Canada.

https://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php

Mrs. Norman MC DONALD, 75, died at the home of her son Allan, Crawford Park, Dec. 27.

Mrs. MC Donald was born in Scotland. Fifty years ago she and her husband came to Canada to the Shoal Lake district. Following 18 years in the hotel business at Elphinstone, they moved to Crawford Park about 11 years ago. Surviving are her husband, two sons, Jack, Stony Mountain - Allan, Crawford Park, and three daughters, Mrs. E. W. Spragg,  Menzie; Mrs. B Leary Winnipeg and Mrs. H. McKercher, Strathclair. Manitoba.

Not surprised it's a different DoB.  ::)  Yesterday I couldn't locate a Barbara Mcdonald on SP or Ancestry using the 6th December date. Maybe she's there with a 12 August 1864 DoB.

Makes sense they were in the hotel trade. Barbara was a cook in a hotel in the 1891 census. I think the hotel proprietor was named Campbell.
