Monzievaird, Mcrorie; New member, first post.
« on: Sunday 17 October 21 20:23 BST (UK) »
After doing a blind search on the interweb, I found many references to Rootschat ( K Rees, are you out there?) referencing Mcrorie's of Crief. I'm hoping to find info on Daniel Mcrorie, probably my third great grandfather, married (1803) to Jean Low. I believe a couple sons emigrated to Canada (where I was raised), and a couple to Australia. I met an Allen and Ruby Mcrorie in Shepperton, Victoria in the 80's, who would have descended from him as well.  I descend from his son Daniel.
I'm looking for help filling out his life in Scotland, and confirming his relationship to me.
thanks!
I am also on Ancestry and FTDNA dna.
Thanks!
Lloyd

Have you checked https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

JEAN LOW   Married    DANIEL MCRORIE   06/02/1803   Crieff

Children Crieff, Father Daniel/Donald, mother Jean/Jane which can be interchangeable.

PETER 20/11/1803, JEAN 8/12/1805, ANN 6/03/1814

There are a couple of possible Daniel/Donald baptisms but they do not tie in with the information in the post that K Ross was contributing to (Search McRorie on this site in Perthshire)

I had discounted this possibility but now the daughter Christian appears, I wonder?

DANIEL MCRORIE      PATRICK/MC RORIE CHRISTIAN MURRAY   04/08/1776   Monzievaird and Strowan

In Scotland the two names Patrick and Peter are generally fully interchangeable.

Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Thank you, you are helping build my confidence that I am on the right track and I appreciate your guidance. I had found an image of a marriage notice of February 6, 1803. However, it refers to Daniel McRorie "Monivair" and Jean Low. I believe i'm reading it correctly.
Perhaps the Monivair is a reference to his home (Monzievaird)? None of the other marriages listed seem to have a similar reference, so that threw me. I would try and place him in Monzievaird, if that's the case.

In 1841 Census Glasgow, Lanarkshire we find 'your' Daniel (age rounded down) b.1816

Daniel Mcrorie    25       Mason            Not born in Lanarkshire
Janet Mcrorie     20                                     ditto
Mary Mcrorie       4                                     ditto
Peter Mcrorie       0                             born in Lanarkshire
Daniel Mcrorie     55      Mason            not born in Lanarkshire

So, his father Daniel bc.1786 in Scotland.

However, he is not the Daniel bp.6/5/1787 Monzievaird & Strowan to Malcolm Mcrorie and Janet Donaldson.    This man is still back in Perthshire - a builder - and died 1872.   His death entry confirms his mmn as Donaldson.

I can't find your Daniel bc.1786 after 1841 census - so either he died before 1851 or he went to Canada maybe with his son Daniel.

So, we have 2 Daniel Mcrorie's born around the same time frame - your one a mason, the other a builder - but there only appears to be a baptism available online for one of them i.e. the builder.
