Second Chemical Warfare Service Training Regiment
« on: Tuesday 19 October 21 16:45 BST (UK) »
It's probably a long shot, but can this photo be sharpened up a bit?  It was taken in December 1942.  My father was drafted on 16 December 1942 and assigned to Company H, Second Chemical Warfare Service Training Regiment at Camp Sibert, Alabama.  If the picture was taken in late December, it's possible he's in the photo.  I've scrutinized it and there are some possibles but I can't pick him out for sure.

Oddly, the picture comes from this Chinese web site:

I gave it a go, a little clearer I think but not much, it's the best I could do without making it look new. Great image to have.

Slightly enlarged - from 8.83 x 5.02 to 11.86 x 6.74 inches and then one click of my 'sharpen' tool. Best I can do. :)

Thanks to all.  It looks better but I still can't be sure.  It would be a great photo to have if I knew he was in it.  I'll just save it as 'this is the type of unit he was in.'  I've read up a bit on Camp Sibert; it was the major army chemical training facility and went into operation in December 1942 so he would have been among the first batch of recruits to be trained there. There are other photos online but the guys are mostly wearing gas masks so they cannot be identified.  It was probably inevitable that he wound up at Sibert - he was drafted out of college and had three years as a chemistry major under his belt.  Fortunately, he wound up with a desk job in gas mask supply and didn't actually have to deploy chemical weapons.
