No problem with that, He is Robert Henry Clapp the bmd gives 1844 Totnes 9/575 the lady in
question is one of four, that's not very helpful, the family I have were in Blachawton, his father
was a John Clapp and mother Mary Torr, Robert got married to another lady in portsmouth
in 1853 and he recorded him self as a widower, the only mariage I found was the 1844, but
Ancestry/familysearch/Findmypast are dead ends so the only other way was to buy a copy
of the that marriage, the cost varies quite considerably, Robert was bp 1820 Blackawton..
there are others in Devon but not with a John as father, the marriage cert would seem to
be the only avenue to proceed.

Marriage certificate will give conclusive evidence, however I suspect he married Susanna Salter as a Clapp/Salter child born as below

CLAPP, MARY  ANN     mmn SALTER
GRO Reference: 1845  D Quarter in TOTNES  Volume 09  Page 486

added, possible death of Susanna Clapp

Name:   Age at Death (in years):
CLAPP, SUSANNA       28
GRO Reference: 1846  D Quarter in TOTNES  Volume 09  Page 371

Do you have Robert in 1851 census?

If so was he single/married/widowed?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Possible military records for Robert.

Robert Clapp
Principal
United Kingdom, Merchant Navy Seamen Records, 1835-1941
Birth1820
DEVONSHIRE
Military Service United Kingdom.

He appears to have been a caulker in 1861 and 1881 census is a superannuated caulker. In 1871 is a pensioned Shipwright. Probably the Robert CLAP  aged 21 in 1841 census occ Shipwright.

I have been unable to find Robert in the 51c, I have him later as you picked up
him being a caulker after his remarrying, but the alas nor sign of the Mary Ann
1845 or Robert, did Mary Ann die before the 51 as is a won't to happen the loss
of family between the 41 and 51 c, best try to find out if Mary A pasted over like her
mother, best keep looking, Susanna if correct was bp as non con as Presbyterian 1818
in Dartmouth, oh well good hunting thanks all much appreciated....mick
