Walter and William Beaty
« on: Friday 22 October 21 09:19 BST (UK) »
Hello All,
I was sent some info re a Walter Beaty (sic) and his son, William. It stated that they were farmers in Becks, Langholm Parish. William is said to have a daughter named Charlotte, born about 1841. She is said to have been listed in the 1851 census for Langholm. I've looked on Scotlandspeople, but no joy.

A William Beattie, farmer of Becks, appears in the 'Chronicles of Muckledale', which appears to corroborate the info.

Am I just having a senior moment?!

Cheers,

Bob

1851 census, Manse of Langholm: William Berry Shaw, 75, minister of Langholm; wife Eliza, 64; daughter Agnes Gaskell, widow, 37; son William Robert, 20; granddaughter Charlotte Beattie, 10.

She is indexed on SP as Charlote Beattie.

William Beaty married Eliza Shaw in Langholm on 27 January 1839. Recorded children Walter, 1842; William, 1843; Mary Richardson 1845; Eliza 1849; George Henry, 1852; Amelia Anne 1854. They should be in the 1851 census.

If you're searching on SP use Beat* as the surname.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
